New Member Introduction - Seeking Ideas.

Hello,

I'm a new member here, but I am not new to aquarium keeping. I've been keeping aquariums on and off for many years but I there's many things that remind me I am still very newbie like.
I've surfed this forum for information forever. Seems like there's lots of active and informed people here. Back to my noob status though. I have a few questions that perhaps someone can shed some light on. Here it is,

In my office, I have a 30 Gallon long aquarium that currently has the following:

5 Wild Caught Leopoldi Angelfish.
12 Silver Tipped Tetras.
6 Serpae Tetras.

Some plants.
More algae.

I picked up a lightly used 65 Gallon tall aquarium last summer and finally decided to get it up and running:

Two weeks ago, I filled it with water and recommissioned the old 2217 Eheim Filter.
I had to purchase new hose for the Ehiem though. I bought my vinyl tubing from Home Depot, which I've used with no problems forever.
I got the 2217 up and running with no issue.

This week, I added a new 150W Aequon Pro heater and a new "deep water" whisper air pump, tubing, and air stone.

I have two issues that I cannot quite figure out yet.

1) The water has developed an odd odor. I can best describe the smell as being plastic. In fact, the aquarium is open top and the odor permeates the entire room - It's so strange.
2) Today, the water is super cloudy.

These issues were non existent before adding the heater and the air pump. But, I'm not sure if it's related or a coincidence.
There is no aquascaping or livestock in this aquarium yet. The plans are to relocate my 30 Gallon inhabitants but that is put on hold for the time being.

My questions are:

1) Has anyone experienced this plastic odor before using either one of these products?
2) Has anyone experienced any one of these products creating cloudy water?

I am going to go through a process of elimination to find the cause, but I was curious if anyone here has had this experience before.
Also, I am leaning towards the heater causing the odor. When I pull it out of the water, the odor seems strong coming right from the plastic body.

Any thoughts, feelings, or ideas would be awesome.

Thanks!

Smells good to me.

Sounds like a problem with the heater. I had a Hydor inline one actually melt itself once. Made the tank reek of burnt plastic. The fish didn't seemed harmed by it, but I wasn't pleased that's for sure.

Yes, I disconnected the heater to see if that helps with the odor.

Smells good to me.
