Help! Moving abroad for six months

Hi I don't know if there's an easy solution to this but I'm moving abroad for six months and I finally set up my tank up to be balanced.

I'm wondering if anybody has ever just let a tank go or had a set up where you preserve the plants in some fashion.

I don't want to close everything down completely it would be nice to restart when I get back. Perhaps have somebody come by once a month?

This is always tough. Really depends on how sensitive your fish and plants are. If your plants donít need CO2 and you have a very light bio load you may get by with timers for light and an automatic feeder. However going that long with out water changes is never something Iíve done.

Six months is more than I've ever left a tank without somebody watching. I try to maintain good neighbors and swap labor of this sort but even six weeks is a long time and lots of things do go wrong in six months.
Without at least weekly attention? Water goes low, filters stop working, water is polluted and then it goes down fast. One silly fish in the wrong place can die and foul the whole thing. I would simply bite the bullet, save the equipment and consider it part of the cost of operations.
I would not want to come back knowing the mess I had to deal with as it is far worse than initial setting.

I think you're right. Shut down is best. Just frustrating because it did take a while to achieve balance
