Floating algae bits? Or something else?

This cropped up in one day. Never seen it before. Almost like someone dumped a whole bunch of little food flakes which are floating around top of tank. Any insight? I just put back in a few tetras 3 days ago after keeping tank barren for a month....

Looks like duckweed to me. Maybe it got carried in with the tetras? Or they stirred up some algae off the gravel and such.

Was the filter off for that month? I get brown algae that comes out of my filter (it likes the fast moving water in the hoses) sometimes when I turn it off for cleaning and then flip it back on.

The tetras were in my plantless quarantine tank for a month and I didn't let any of that water get in here so I do not know how this could be duckweed. I do have a green (dust?) algae issue that I am trying to contain. Does anyone have experience where, after a big water change and cleaning, the algae from elsewhere "congeals" and clumps into pieces, floating on top?

Bump: highseq, thanks, the filter remained running...

Bump: Highseq, but you just made me think that I detached and rubbed off some of the white calcium(?) buildup on my filter rubber hose out of the tank, and maybe some of the residue sloughed off and is now floating? Observation: This hobby gives rise to a LOT of hypothesizing.
