Lightening Fast Fishless Cycle

I just had to share. I'm really happy!

So I set up my 7.5 gallon Penn Plax tank Friday night with a small amount of filter media from my Spec V. I added ammonia to approx. 4.0ppm yesterday around 4pm. Today my water turned super cloudy (bacterial bloom?) and tonight I tested my water and got the results in the pic below. I am so thrilled! This is my first fishless cycle and I really wanted to do it right, for I'm sure the fish-in cycle I did with my poor old betta 3yrs ago in the Spec is why he didn't last more than a year.

I would cycle the tank for probably another week while testing the water to makes sure you dont get any spikes. I have a 3.5g that i set up and thought was fully cycled after a couple of weeks running water and media from an older established tank. During the following week after i got several nitrite and nitrate spikes that required heavy water changes as I had began stocking the tank already.

In order to assist and speed up the process, you may want to add in some of the substrate, plants, decor, and filter media from the established tank into the new tank.

Only dead fish swim with the stream.
