filter for divided tank

hi,

i'm planning to have a 8 gallon tank, that im gonna divided into 2 .
and im gonna stock it with betta.

but i wonder is it okay if i just use 1 hang on filter and place it right in the middle?
so the suction pipe will be on the left and the water will go out to the right tank..

the separation that i will use is a acrylic that will be drill lots of holes

thank you

You could use a thin sheet of blue(or other color if available) poret foam and then you would actually have a big wall of filtration was the water moves from one side to the other!
