New 4ft planted tank setup
I am looking to start a new planted tank setup, exciting times! I have ordered a 4ft tank which will arrive in a week or so. I wanted to run past my plan so far so that you can guide me if I miss something. I have a number of questions as well which I will slowly post!
Here’s a list of things I have considered to get started with the setup -
Substrate – thinking of going with Flourite black. I have read that it is similar to Eco complete but this one doesn’t need to be replaced ever.
Light – I have two LED tubes from MakeMyLed that was made for my previous 3ft tank. The new tank also has two 54 watt T5s. The LED worked well for me specially when I had DIY CO2 going in my previous attempt. I am not sure about T5, are they good enough for planted tank?
CO2 – planning to order pressurized CO2 setup. DIY is not reliable enough for me and I got algae attack when CO2 was off.
Fertilizer – Not sure yet. I might order from aquariumfertilizer.com but need guidance as to what to order. In addition, what else I need to buy from the Seachem collection?
Plants – haven’t decided yet, open to suggestions. I want to have carpet at foreground. I have read that the tank should be heavily planted from the start. Is that correct? I am not in a hurry to add fishes, so I was thinking of adding minimal water so that the carpet plant get enough light. Is that a good idea or unnecessary?
What did I miss? Please suggest if you think anything above needs changed.
Looking forward to your inputs.
