API Accu-Clear removed my tannins??

So - i have driftwood in my Oscar tank that had released a decent amount of tannins.

Last night, i cleaned out my sump and it clouded the water - so i dosed it with some accuclear. Turns out i overdosed the tank, but i let it sit overnight anyways.

As of this morning, the tank is clear - and all of my tannins are gone.. I didnt think accuclear would remove tannins and it wasn't what i was going for.

is it supposed to do this??

Did you change the water when you were cleaning out the sump? This product is a flocculant which will aggregate colloids, whereas tannins are dissolved in the water. Because of this, it a unlikely unless the flocculant is cationic, but they are usually non-ionic in my experience.

I took out only about 20 gallons, and added 20 of fresh water. Its a 90 gallon tank, with a 40g sump.

any other water change, this wasn't enough to touch the tannins.

How old is the setup/wood? I have a 92 that started with a lot of wood and a 20 gallon sump (added an 80 gallon later) that was full of tannins. A 50% water change cleared the water for awhile, only to be visible again in a day or two. After 2-3 months, smaller water changes took care of it (and the water was colorless longer). Since then, I hardly see any color unless I miss a water change.

It could be possible that the coagulant is clearing it, but I'd be curious to see what happens after another small water change in the future.
