Short tanks and stands

I'm debating about purchasing a new tank that is rather short on height. It is about 16 inches or 17 inches tall, which IMO always looks rather odd slumping over to look inside the tank. On a basic stand that I usually use, it is going to be rather short to look at. I was wondering is there any way to possibly make the tank sit up more? I know I can custom order a stand that has more height to it, but doing that from my LFS tends to take months.

Anybody have any ideas?

I'm guessing just building one yourself is out?
You could always go with the 2x6s and cinder block stand and then build a wooden facade to clamshell around it later. Quick, cheap, customizable dimensions.

How large a tank are we talking about? What are it's dimensions?

I like the DIY stand idea. Or OP could just make a "booster seat" and place the stand on top of it. Just a simple, sturdy platform to elevate the tank and stand. Stain or paint to match, could even double as a storage area.

Or OP could put the low tank beside his favorite chair/sofa in a way that will be viewed from a sitting position.

When faced with wanting something practical but ugly, I like to cover it with fabric. A short stand with a simple "C" shaped topper could serve a function for storing things like food near the tank. Add a simple "Slip-cover" to hide it but give easy access? If wanted the cover could extend all the way to the floor to make it appear to be the same item.
My first choice would be DIY stand of the right height but then blocks and 2X, covered will look much the same.

Yeah building my own is not an option, nor is using cinder blocks. I have hardwood floors and they would scratch up the floor very easily.

The tank is 40 gallons 48x12x17.

Ever consider making the focus being above rather than under water? Look at ripariums. My 55g turned into a monster riparium, it was on a low table + thick mass or plants and roots underwater means I couldn't see underwater but I didn't care, the plants on top were wonderful to look at!

Due to photobuckets new bs cost for use of images on forums I have deleted all photobucket accounts. I apologize if you enjoyed or found my photos helpful.

That looks cool and all, but not something I would personally be into
