What size tank?

So I just got approval from the wife to set up a shrimp tank . I really like the look of the cube tanks, but I'm not sure which one to get. I want to keep it as a small tank (around 7.5-15g). I really like the BT's, but will start with some rcs. I'm not sure on the scape yet either, but first things first. What size tanks should I get?

Also if anyone has any for sale, I'd be interested to hear what you have.

I think you will be good with the 30C or the GLA/Aqua equivalent. 7.5G - 10G is a good starting point.

And if you want BT's you can always get a couple from me for free once my little babies are grown. Heck, I will give you free RCS if that's what you want to start out with. I have too many.

Yes, a 500 gal tank would be great for a "small starter system"! (grin)

The size you choose is going to depend upon a lot of things. IMO there is no one best size, or one size that fits all.

I would first figure out what sort of livestock, both plants and fish that I wanted to keep, and then choose the tank and the rest of the equipment to accommodate them. Of course, this process also stops you from getting something that would be out of the question for you. For example if you want adult discus you are gong to need a large tank. If you can't afford that you need to find something else to keep.

Then figure the total cost of ownership, not just the initial purchase, but what it will take to keep it going. Your going to need to replace light bulbs, pay for electricity, replace CO2 stuff, fish food, test kits and so on.

If you feel you can afford it all then go for it, if not either scale it back or forget about it.

Anthony already has a tank with fish, so he knows what it will entail. He is asking specifically about a shrimp tank, as he does not have one yet.

I use an eheim 2211 on my 30C.

Just let me know when you are ready to get some shrimp, and we can set up another time for you to swing by and get some. It'll probably be about 2-6 weeks before your tank is ready to get some BT's, but the RCS seem to live in just about anything. By the time you are ready, I bet my SSS will be in the 30c.

Also, if you want to "fast" cycle, I would suggest using Azoo's plant substrate over AS. It has been a month for me, and the AS is still leaching out tons of Ammonia. I am going non-co2 for now on the tank. I am thinking of getting a nano co2 kit, but I am wary about my SSS. Not sure, and I won't use excel at all.

http://www.target.com/itso-1x2-Cube-...qid=1282496673

Saw this at target when I looked.
14.75 x 29.5 x 14.75 "

Should be perfect for your tank and its $40 bucks.

The tank has a foot pront of 18"x9.5", but I did see a few other that may work. Thanks.

Anyone else out there with a Mini L on a stand? What are you using?

Whoa, that's a strange spec. lol

I went by this spec: Dimensions: 45cm X 24cm X 30cm (14.17in X 9.45in X11.8 in)

Didn't know it was 18"

30cm is about 12in, so 45cm is just shy of 18 in.

14.17in = 36cm. You're thinking of the mini M.

LOL! I think ADG's site has an error

Dimensions: 36cm X 22cm X 26cm (14.17in X 8.66in X10.24 in) is what is posted for the Mini M. lololol

AFA's site is correct though: Dimension of Mini-L:45x24x30cm (approx:18"x9.5"x12")

Darn!

No I missed that. That's an AWESOME deal.

Still looking for a light and stand. Anyone with some ideas? I know other prople have these tanks. Why is it so hard to find a nice light and stand.

Also what canister filter is good for this tank? 8.8 gallons.
