New Tank, Need Advice
So I have finally convinced my wife to put a tank in our bedroom. Needless to say I am very happy to set up another tank (MTS hit me hard). My wife will be calling the shots and doing the maintenance on this tank. At first, she did not want real plants but has since reconsidered and understands how much better it looks. The aquarium is a 46G bowfront (nice fit in our space).
My problem is that when ordering the various supplies needed, I was not planning on real plants being in the tank. We are OK from a substrate standpoint (flourite black sand), but lighting and CO2 could certainly be an issue. I ordered a 36" Marineland Double Bright LED fixture as I wanted to check out LEDs and didn't think there would be real plants to worry about. My wife is not keen on DIY CO2 or the cost of injected. Dosing Excel isn't really that attractive either so CO2 could be an issue here. I'm not really sure where the LED fixture puts me in terms of light (never had a LED fixture before). Does anyone have thoughts on appropriate plants for this no CO2 / LED setup? I'm thinking the old stand-by plants such as Anubias, Java Fern, and crypts could do well but I'm just not sure. I want to make this an enjoyable experience for her, not an exercise in frustration with dying plants / algae everywhere.
Any input would be much appreciated. Thanks in advance for your help!
