java moss

Will java moss grow across a sand substrate or can you contain/control it by having it attach to rocks placed in the sand?

I have never been able to do this, but it will stick to the glass of the tank eventually, but it takes a lot of time. It will adhere to rocks if it is tied on with thread. I especially like the looks of it attached to twigs of manzanita and trim it often to give it that filled out look like a tree.

Any moss can be made into a carpet. Moss will attach itself to whatever substrate it can touch. It will be the easiest to attach it to rocks first though. I like to use the the shower scrubby things and some zip ties instead of thread or fishing line. Super glue gel works great too. I would try other mosses than java though. Imo, the way java moss grows doesn't make for too nice of a foreground.
