RO/DI question..

Hey everyone,

I'm switching my reef over to a planted tank in a week or so, and I have an awesome top-off system that I would REALLY like to keep. I have my RO/DI unit hooked up to a reservoir tank with a float valve, and a line running from there to my tank with a float switch. I have read in a few places though that RO water lacks essential minerals for the plants and should not be used. Could I just dose the tank every X-days with something to replenish them? I really don't like dosing without testing for things, but I feel like I couldn't really test for everything naturally found in the water.

If I felt as you do I would just use tap water for my tanks (and I do just that). At most I would dilute my tap water with RO/DI water to lower the KH, for example.
