leaving the door open

my fishroom gets very humid and kind of stays warm. tonight its cool and much less humid outside than it is inside.

i want to drop the humidity and temp in the room and hopefully the ambient air will reduce the temp in my tanks too.

what do you think? bad idea leaving the door open, should i worry about insects or animals messing with the tank?

Could you install a screen or something? I'd be pretty worried abotu the insects and animals going into your house.

No windows with screen? I'd get a screen door. Animals like coons and the like have a nature of getting into places like this... fish food, fish, anything will entice them. People would be surprised to see what lives arounde them

If you do get a screen door, I'd recommend one with stainless steel mesh. I've had a cat rip a hole in the screen that we have over our windows before.

I would keep the door closed. We have plenty of critters around here. You’re not far from me, and bet you have more then me.

to bad the red sox aren't worth watching. I would leave the door closed. What if you get ants inside?

This sounds like a good time to add a vent fan of the type used in bathrooms, etc. Depending on how the DIY skills add up and how the basement is built, it can be pretty cheap to do. The advantages of the fan are that it can be built to do the job without watching over. It also is built so that critters can't get in. With a humidistat or thermostat to control whichever you need, it can keep the moisture and temp from building up a layer of mold, etc. That can be nasty stuff to get rid of once started.

Just shop around for a cheap screen door, or build your own. And the mesh guard CL suggested would be a must IMO.

Our cat has kind of mangled some screens in the past, so can only imagine what a hungry coon or opossum etc. might inflict.

getting a vent in that room would be a royal pita. its all concrete walls. i could go over the sill plate however then i would be cutting into the siding which i really dont want to do.

putting in a screen door wouldnt be worth the money for the few times that i would want to have it open..

and what a ridiculous statement! the red sox arent worth watching!? and who is? the yankees? hA!
the cooler would have been a great idea if the packy was still open last night. no beer = no fun.
