Biological filter thingy question

So have have a 55 gallon half full with water with a old eheim filtering things. (i changed tanks to save space) In a couple of days i'm getting a new eheim that can actually pump the entire tank (eheim 2215) so i was wondering how long it will be before i can either add water slowly or add in the rest of the water. There are fish in there so i dont want to cause any cycle.

fill up your 55 g slowly. you probably should have filled the 55 g and then drip accilmated them while they were in the bucket.

it would be a good idea to use both filters for now untill the new one has established its bio filter

You can fill up the remainder of your tank now. Once you have your 2215, keep both filters for at least 3-4 weeks so that the 2215 can be seeded with the beneficial bacteria.

In addition, I would simply keep the 2215 as well as your current filter (whatever it may be) on the 55g; a 2215 alone is not enough for a 55g tank.
