ZooMed 501 collecting C02

I run my DIY C02 directly into my canister's intake and keep it behind my tank which has a painted background. I was topping off the water in my tank and pumped the filter and it started to purge the built up gas. I've used this method before and occasionally you get a bubble no big deal, right? I look at the filter and there is enough gas in there to fill the top 1/4 of the filter. I thought the little tube next to the impeller was supposed to keep that from happening.

i dont know anything about your filter. i do know that pushing co2 into your filter can cause problems with it. why dont you just spring for a diffusor, they're cheap

You don't have room for a 1" diameter glass diffuser? You can also use an inline diffuser that connects to the filter's outflow tubing (something like this).
