Thumbs up Hello from Alabama

Hey everyone,

I joined this site a while back, but am just now planning my planted tank. I have had a reef for a few years, but have decided to change over to freshwater due to money and time/effort reasons.

I currently have a 40 Breeder reef and a 10 gallon mantis shrimp tank. I am keeping the mantis tank and changing the breeder over. I have a calcium reactor running on the 40 so I will be using my current CO2/controller setup.

For lighting I am running a 150W 14k halide, but I am planning on either a two or four bulb t5 unit for the freshwater. I think 4 may be overkill, so I will probably just go with two bulbs.

Filtration is still up in the air. I have a sump at the moment and would like to keep that just to get the heater and everything out of the display tank.

Anyway, Just thought I'd post and say hey. I'm sure I will posting more once I begin the transition (early August).

Ivan

You're going to love planted tanks. Reefs are interesting and beautiful, but the fact that you can see growth in your plants from one night to the next morning will keep you hooked. I spend hours looking at each individual plant in my tank everyday. ( That means I'm diligent, not insane )

I'm definitely going to miss my reef, but I can easily see myself getting hooked on planted tanks too. Reefs do take a long time to see changes, but in the end it's entirely worth it IMO. I'm excited to learn different things. I can't wait to get started!

Hi! I just moved from Auburn 2 years ago. I'm pretty new to fish in general but have been bitten badly by the bug and now have several tanks...

Good luck with the transition!
