Minimum 10 gallon substrate depth

I am setting up a new 10 gallon tank (20"l x 10"w x 12"h) and I would like to know what is the minimum depth that the following plants would need to grow.

Dwarf Grass
Microsword
Anacharis

I actually don't have the dwarf grass but I would like to get some soon. My microsword is growing fairly well in my 3 gallon I'm about to transplant from but the substrate in that is almost 4 inches thick and I would like to shorten that down because it's forming ammonia pockets in it.

The substrate I use is like sand so it's a fine substrate. The new substrate I am going to use is actually finer than the one I had before so I don't want the ammonia pockets to kill my tank like the stories I have heard before.

Thanks

I have a nano growing some similar plants in 1 inch of gravel. 1-2 inches should be fine for your plants.
