Wahooooooo!

Just picked up a 125 gallon with stand, emperor 400, odyssea 4, heater, power filter for $100. No scratches and in great shape. Just cleaned it as it was previously reef tank. Need to sell a couple of the 55 gallons now to make room. Not sure what we are doing with this one, probably mostly a fish tank to house a growing oscar, some silver dollars, and others, but will keep it a low tech planted with some crypts, swords, and some others. I will post some pics once I get it up and running.

I also came across a similar deal like the one you found and gobbled it up, Congrats on a sweet find!

Have you decided which light you will be using for a low tech setup?

I have a 48" coralife 2(22")X 65 watt pc on an existing 55 gallon which is raised a couple of inches. It came with with a 48" 2X(48") 67 watt florescent fixture. The tank dimensions are 48"X24"X24" so it is a tall 125. I like the 6' long 120's better, but could not pass on the deal.

What do you all think I can do with either of those lights? I don't want to run CO2 on this set up at this time.

I have and could stock it with:
5 amazon swords
massive amounts of Crypt wendtii
italian vals
dwarf sag
ludwigia repens
rotala green
two large anubius

The silver dollars will eat most things so I will test a couple of plants and see how they do. Will the above plants work with both of the lights I currently have?

100 bones for a 125 gallon with iron stand. Came with a Cascade 1000, a large HoB filter, glass covers, and one 3-4 foot basic tank light. also all the random air stone parts and lame decorations everyone buys at first . The lady purchased the tank just for a few goldfish she had placed into her pond one summer. Was a smelly cleaning job, but well worth it.
Gotta love craigslist.

plants? good luck keeping your substrate in one place. my oscar used to take what ever he could in his mouth and then spit it at his reflection in the glass. he would knock over all of the decorations in the tank. i had a big pile of gravel on the left side of the tank and none on the right

Exactly what I was referring to Tim. Beautiful fish minus its taste in housekeeping.

That's too funny about the Oscar. So far he has has been pretty mellow but I know what you are talking about. May have to just let him tear it up some and see what happens. Also, I know the silver dollars eat plants like crazy so I will experiment a little and see what they like. I have clippings from the real planted tanks that I can spare.

I set it up today and need to clean it some more, but will start cycling it next weekend.

If your goal is a planted tank then you're going to have to lose the fish.
