Found cheap driftwood at local pet shop but can I use it?

It looks like grapewood attached to slate but I see its screwed through the bottom into the driftwood. Its big pieces with alot of character but I'm worried about the screw rusting and possibly contaminting my tank. Is this ok?

I'm more concerned with it being grapewood, which will rot in water. But I believe stainless steel screws are fine btw.

I'd soak it for a while in a separate container first if you want to try keeping the slate on, but if not, you could just take the screw/s out, no? Soaking is also good in general imo just to make sure tannins and any bugs or whatever are out. You could also coat it in a waterproofing spray (find an aquarium-safe one, look it up on the forum) to prevent rotting.
