Angry Keeping Fish Out Of AIO Sump!?

I have a 5 gallon Marineland Contour all-in-one tank that I CAN NOT keep certain things out of the sump. Specifically Amano shrimp and small guppies, they must be jumping the back wall and once they are back there it is so crammed that it becomes very frustrating to get them out. I run the tank without the glass top, and it was designed for the glass top to tuck under the rear sump cover so without it there is this gap. Never has anything jumped out of the tank, only into the rear. I already modified the rear cover to allow a fern to emerge out of the sump so I am thinking about attaching some sort of shield to the lip on this cover. Any ideas?

Can you just put a barrier there? Like some black plastic needlework canvas. Seems like that would be fairly covert if done neatly.

I am going to try and find some plastic trim molding and paint it black. Silicone it on upside down or something.
