Community to planted need help

I am very new to planted tanks and I am currently trying to switch to a planted tank from a community tank . I have added co2 and lights. I added some easy to grow plants in the back because I just have regular gravel. In the front I added some Amazonia powder in hopes to plant some Monte Carlo as a carpeting plant. I'm here looking for any advice and tips I would love to make the whole tank substrate Amazonia but it's exspensive for me that's why the gravel is still there and also I didn't want to have to cycle my tank. What would happen if I got one big bag of Amazonia and added it on top of the gravel ? Or am I better off using root tabs. Also any suggestions on the plant placement. Thanks

You'd be better off replacing the gravel a little at a time as capping the gravel is going to reek havoc on your tank. All the bacteria that lives on the gravel will die due to the lack of oxygen which will cause your tank's cycle to crash.
