Well...I did it

So after thinking it over, I decided instead of going 50/50 live plants...I went all live. Just finished setting it up today, so for now my phone pic will have to do.

My tank: Eclipse 5 corner. Stock filter with a Fluval sponge prefilter on intake, and aquaclear sponge filter media. I also 'borrowed' a CFL 13w 3500K daylight bulb from my bathroom. For those local to Phx I went to Aqua Touch to purchase my plants. Very helpful people. I got Jave fern, moss, and I cant for the life of me remember what the redish plants in the corners are, or what the little circular leafed ground cover plants are. Also I purchased some seachem flourish excel for the plants.

I know my last post I asked about RO water. (thx for the tips) For now I just went with bottled drinking water since it has been doing good for me in my kids tank. I also took the old filter out of their HOB filter and put in the tank to help with cycling.

I hope to add Cherry shimp soon(maybe a week or 2?)

My only concern at the moment is the heat of the bulb. The water is about 81 degrees. Its been on for about 8hrs.

ANYWAY...on to the pic...

Nice setup!

Yeah, the Eclipse tanks do tend to heat up, though. If you leave the lid open it can help release some of that heat.

Fraid we'll have to wait for better pics to help you out with the plant IDs though, or get me some better glasses LOL

Are shrimp all you're planning for the tank in terms of livestock?

Ok...here are some better? pics...
Since this was a used tank ($10) the front is a little scratched up. Its worse in pics than in real life so sorry again for some of the blur.
Front:

Side view, I have 1 of these plants with the red on it on the other side also but I cant remember the name. I'm sure some else here can ID it.

The last 2 have the little plants with the round leaves that I again, forgot what they are:

And lauraleellbp: I am undecided if I will add any other fish besides shrimp. I would like to be successful at having them breed and when I am a little more confided maybe switch to the crystal reds. My kids tank has some shrimp but i have babies seperated right now because I think the guppies and glofish will eat them. So those are pretty much out. Maybe some tetras or cats or something. I know there is a lot of good info on fish that do ok with shrimp so I'll have some research to do.

love it. cant wait for the progression. dont be afraid to ask for help too. i was too proud my first time. being able to grow tomatos does not a submersed gardner make.

I think the tiny round leaf low growing plant is Marsilea minuta, and the long green leaf one is needle leaf Java Fern.

Try taking photos without a flash and with no other light on in the room, just the light in the hood. That usually gives the best results.

Thx everyone...I plan on asking lots of q's as they come up. I cant wait to see it take off more either. Hopefully lots of pics and success stories also!
You all are right about the java fern(needle leaf), and the rotala. I remember the names now that someone has said them. However neither of the names for the little ones sounds familiar. Not to say one of you is not correct.

Also Hoppy: believe it or not those pics are with no flash or other light. The tank is kinda scratched up right there in the middle, so it always looks like that. I was thinking of using a plastic polish to try and get some of it out. It wasnt as noticably bad with the lower power bulbs, but then you couldnt see much of anything.
