dry start monte carlo

I have some Micranthemum 'Monte Carlo' planted in my tank now where its only been for a few days.

I was wondering if I could remove the water and dry start the monte carlo. Also any suggestions are appreciated.

The Monte Carlo should be fine, but I'd recommend water for the tiger barbs.
