HC Cuba question

Hi everyone,

I just came across a thread where this guy was growing HC Cuba in a tank not filled with water. The sand was really wet though, and he planted the HC in there and let it grow in before he filled the tank. To avoid algae, and for whatever other reasons.

My question is this. If I were to do the same, plant a beautiful carpet of HC with a empty tank, then fill with water, would I need to inject Co2 to maintain the carpet?

Thanks everyone

Yes, you would need to have CO2 after you filled the aquarium with water to maintain the HC carpet.

Co2 is a must for maintaining HC. The plant has very high Co2 requirements but ironically,it is not very greedy about its Co2 uptake. I tried growing an emersed HC carpet in my 2.5 nano and it did not work. Do some research on this method of propagation before trying it. I hope you have better lick than I did.

Thanks everyone for all of the fantastic replies.

Guess I will have to buy another Co2 system then for my 2nd tank where I am trying this HC carpet method hehe. Man this hobby is expensive!
