Discus / Plants Question..

Hi there,

Iím going to arrange new discus tank, I just wonder to know how I can manage the temperature for the plants as they need low temp. with discus fish which needs warm water somehow?

Which temperature can suite both of them with no problem??

Please advise..

Best regards

Hameed

I've had success with all the following in my tanks, which run 80-82F:

Swords (any of the Echinodorus sp, including the chain swords)
Sagittaria
Hygrophilas
Crypts
Bacopa caroliniana & B. colorata
Rotala
Lilaeopis mauritiana
Vallisnerias
Lobelia cardinalis
Hydrocoytle

I keep my discus tank at 82degrees F. I have crypts that won't stop growing, various anubias species, and needle leaf java fern.

One thing to keep in mind, plants are cheaper than discus to replace, look at their needs first.

I would shoot for 82-84 F for discus.

(I'm not keeping discus ATM, that's just the "natural" range on my tank temps during the summer b/c of where I live.)

If you're buying juvies to grow out, it is recommended to keep the temp at 86 to keep their metabolism up, which in turn will make them eat more, which in turn will make them grow faster.

Is this your first attempt at discus?

65g planted tank - 200W heat - PC 192W/6700K - Eheim 2217 - Pressurized CO2 - EI Dosing
