20g lighting and excel dosage?

friend of mine bought one and we are trying to figure out a good amount of light for it. its the one that is 16" tall, we were looking at a diy with cfl spirals. would 4 26 watt bulbs be overkill? the 2 26 watts he has in there now dont seem to be enough.also how much excel should be dosed in a tank this size? thanks

It depends on what you are trying to accomplish. Do you want a high light, high maintenance tank (where fertilizers and CO2 will be required)? Or did you want a lower light (and thus lower maintenance) tank?

As mentioned in the other thread, spiral CFLs have a significant amount of restrike, but with four of these bulbs over a 20g tank, you would have high lighting (perhaps moving into the "algae farm" territory).

As for Excel, I refer you to the manufacturer instructions:

On initial use or after a major (> 40%) water change, use 1 capful (5 mL) for every 40 L (10 gallons*). Thereafter use 1 capful for every 200 L (50 gallons*) daily or every other day.
Thus, after a major water change, use 10 mL. Thereafter, use 2 mL daily, or every other day.
