Re scaped my 40g :)

Took me forever but I'm pretty proud. Definitely a big step up from my last set up. What do you think?

Not generally a fan of colored gravel but that looks pretty snazzy!

Good focal point, the slope works. The vals angling to the left adds a nice visual flow.

Think it needs a background. The filter and cords on the left side are rather off putting. Black would do well imo

The colored gravel is awesome!
Do you have it mixed with ecocomplete?

I'm with @burr740 on this, couldn't have summed up my feelings better. Still very nice contrast.

Hey thanks for the responses. My first post here so it's a ton of fun to get feedback!

The blue gravel was a result of bringing my girlfriend to the fish store lol. I've come to enjoy its unique look though. I try to hide the cords best I can because I don't really want to use a background. If I did it would have to be really subtle. Do you guys know any good places to get them? Otherwise I'm just going to keep propogating those vals all the way across

Thanks!

No its straight gravel but I dose and stuffed it full of flourish root tabs. It was tricky to balance, and honestly I'm still working on that front, but I'm getting close now

Try solid black, think you'll be amazed how it makes the plants stand out.

Most pet stores sell backgrounds by the foot, usually have a solid black/dark blue combo (one color per side) You might also dig the blue along with the blue gravel.

For a cheap quick test run you could grab a piece or two of regular poster board for 35 cents, cut it to size and tape it on just to see how it looks. Many people just use poster board period.

You can just cut a piece of black poster board (or blue) to fit the back for a background. Easy to change if you want.
