Another Newbie takes the plunge
My 12 year old son was badgering me for a tropical fish tank and we have set-up a Fluval Edge with 3 small Ornate (white tip) Tetras in to get things going. They've been in over a month now and seem really well. Sorry but we never tried the fishless-cycle so are working through the maturation process with these 3 pioneers. My pH is slightly over 7.0 and my hardness artificially raised to 70-80mg/litre by adding very small quantities of kH Boost (natural water here is 20-30mg/litre). My ammonia levels are negligible and NO2 is between 0.8-1.6. I'm doing 10% water changes daily (about 2 litres)....hoping the 'cycle' will come to an end soon!
We have a piece of Mogami wood and a couple of artificial fine plants to add a bit of cover until we can put some live plants in later. We'd like a few shrimps down-the-line and a couple more small fish...we realise there's not a lot of room in there.
I'll try to add some photos... Bye for now.
Oh to ride the wind,
To tread the air above the din
Oh to laugh aloud,
Dancing as we fought the crowd.
