CO2 starting point?

I just started hooking up a pressurized CO2 system. What is a good bubble rate to first start with? Please help!!

It's like asking how far down you have to press the accelerator on your new car to go 60 mph.

But the safe thing to do is start with a very slow bubble rate and work up. And start it in the morning on a day you have off. If you have an automatic system then start with a decent rate and take your pH down in small increments over a couple of days.

Rex,
what do you consider a low bubble rate?

Automatic or manual system?
What's your starting pH?
What's your kH?

It is amazing what the search function will tell you. Off the bat I found 3 pages of forum posting all about where to start your BPM. Something interesting:

I suppose you must use liters for aquarium capacity.

I tend to tell people to start with 30 bubbles per minute, assuming they have at least 4dKh.

I just added a 3rd Hagen unit to my tank today. Prior to adding it my numbers were as follows.

pH 7
KH 6'

For CO2 level of 18.0

I want to get as close to 30ppm without going over right?

I suppose that's the "ideal" level, but honestly, anywhere from 15 ppm to 30 ppm is going to be fine for your plants and supply them with plenty of carbon.

start slow

I'd start with as low a rate as you can get, maybe 6 bpm to 10 bpm. I'd hold that for a day, to be sure it is stable, then increase it to maybe 15 bpm. If you are charting pH vs bpm and know your target pH, you can slowly raise it up to that over a few days. The fish need time to adjust to the CO2 in the tank.
