Glass canopy with white/translucent hinge?

Glass canopies that I have seen all have black plastic hinges joining the two panels. If the light strip is raised (on legs) above the tank, it would be nice to get a canopy with a white or translucent hinge for esthetic purposes. Is such a thing available?

Actually, it would be even better if there's no hinge at all blocking the light. Does any one remove the hinge on the canopy and just let the two glass panels rest on the tank unhinged?

I'd appreciate any suggestions.

I have removed the hinge and just left the glass resting on the frame. In fact have even had custom glass cut for more coverage and eliminated the hinge all together.

Removing the hinge works easily. Still need one? Try sending a pm to Jeffboyarrdee. He made an acrylic tank and it has clear hinges.

I removed the hinge and now I can just slide the front panel forward to throw in food and I don't have to push the light fixture back now. I have a JBJ light fixture with the flip stand but that doesn't help because the stand itself is what interferes with raising the glass panel.

On small tanks with glass tops I am a member of 'hinge remover' class. If you light on legs has a second protective shield over the bulb you can also 'remove the glass' if you choose. I like a open top tank but you do have to watch for jumping fish and wandering shrimp. 'Remove glass at your own risk'

Thanks for all your replies. Going hingeless seems to be the simpliest solution.

Bigpow, out of curiosity, what is tap plastic?

Ah, chain store. Haven't seen that store before. Don't think we have it in Canada.

Imnhappy, I may skip the canopy yet, but that will depend on whether I have jumpers. I'm just in the planning stage for another tank so I haven't decided what fish to keep yet.

Thanks for everyone's input.
