moving/shipping question

I may be moving in the future.

Has anyone successfully shipped fish across the country? And I mean over the course of 3-5 days in a car.

It's only neons, I may just give them to someone else.

Secondly, but just as importantly, how long can plants sit in a bag with a bit of moisture? In general.
I was planning on uprooting and separating everything into individual baggies with just a tiny bit of water to ensure they stay moist. I figure most plants do just fine in that setting for well over a week provided they don't get much direct sun light or temperatures that are particularly high or low. Let me know your thoughts or experiences.

Plants ship very well when just damp and placed in sealed plastic bags. The more water you have in the bag, the shorter the time they stay viable. This is counter intuitive, but seems to be factual. I know from experience that most plants last at least 4 days when bagged like this and kept dark.

I have no experience with shipping fish, other than for a few hours on a long trip from the store.

Thanks Hoppy, your wisdom and experience is appreciated.
I'll try not to bag the plants with additional water then.

I suppose it's in the best interest of the fish to see if a local option is possible. It's not like getting some new neon tetras will cost me $200. Not for my little 20 gallon at least.
