My tank is recently blooming with Snails. I need help to find a small size snail eating fish that is fry safe. I have some guppie fries in there and I like to grow them out. Its cheap but its still my babies.

Dwarf loaches. Botia sidthimunki They are no more than 2" long and will eat baby snails and adult snails all day long. I have them in my Endler's tank and have never seen them bother the fry. They are not cheap and are not easy to find. But they are awesome little fish. In fact I'm going to put several in my 46 gallon BF when I get it set up.

LOL, I was gonna suggest that same fish. Awesome social loach that actually schools (friend of mine has a pack of 25 or so in one of his tanks; he ships them in regularly).

I have been looking for sids for a while now for the same problem. They are incredibly hard to find. Foster and Smith have them listed for 29$ and they are out of stock! ibn, do you know where your friend is having them shipped in from?

My LFS carries them almost all the time. And they run right around $15-$20 each as I recall. If you have a working relationship with a LFS see if they can order them for you.

Or check out http://cichlidexchange.com/ they don't have them in stock right now but can get them.

The Zebra loach is also a great snail eater... I got 5 yesterday and already witnessed a snail eating session... I see no snails today

Not quite sure where he's getting them from, but I'll ask him when I see him later on tonight when I go pick up some fish/shrimps. I'll let you know. FYI, he sells them for $10 at his shop.

I'll go back to see if I can hassle my LFS to sale me one at a good price. I was there over the weekend and they have like 10 of them and was suggesting it to me but I turn it down due to the price.

Asked him about it yesterday and he doesn't ship. Best thing would be to see if you can talk to your LFS and see if they can order some for you.

Otherwise, I can buy the fish and ship it to you, but not really wise since I can't guarantee that they will survive the journey (I can do heat/cold packs if anyone can tell me where I can find them).

Forgot to tell you guys this. He said that they're basically extinct in the wild now and his source is from Singapore.

Seems that they're on the IUCN red list http://www.loaches.com/species_pages...dthimunki.html

Well, at least my algae is pearling...

I've dropped quite a bit of money into this hobby over the years, especially when I was running quite a few reef tanks. The amount that you have to pay for a freshwater fish is nothing compared to a saltwater one (goldflake angels, black tangs, golden dwarf morays, etc.). Neither are the inverts (ultra maximas/croceas).

Hmm, seems like those loaches are still around, but not in the numbers that they once were. Good thing that they're able to breed them.

Pufferfreak, how can you call yourself that and not recommend the freshwater dwarf puffer as a snail eater?

They are small, non aggressive, and chow down snails!
