Philly area Co2 exchange?

Anyone know of a Philly area (preferably north, north-west of the city) place that runs a Co2 exchange? Do they even exist? I'm looking for something like you do for propane grill tanks.

If so how much does it cost?

Do they have an exchange program though? Where you're basically renting the tanks. When you need a refill you go there, pay a fee and get a different, full tank.

I'm not sure, you'd be better off calling. I've got three 5lb tanks and have only been there to get them refilled. You might try calling a homebrew supply store. there are a number in the area.

Home Sweet Homebrew (philly)
Keystone Homebrew (montgomeryville & bethleham)
Wine, Barley & Hops (Southampton)

and i'm sure there are even more.

Thanks for the info!

Just curious, where did you buy your tanks from and how much did they run you?

I used to homebrew, and would keg my beer; so two of them came from that. the third was purchased alongside someones 55g planted setup.

I don't quite remember what I paid for the co2 tanks, but I'd wager too much since it came from a homebrew supply store (keystone). I'd suggest taking a look on craigslist. If you buy an old one Mac will replace it for... I think around $20-30

When you say replace it, do you mean if its hydro date has passed, Mac will give me one that has a valid hydro date for $20-$30?

I believe so. I've had to replace 2 of mine so far; and I think it was around that price.

So my friend owns a restaurant and has 8 tanks that he had used for his soda machines but they are past the hydro test date. He's been looking to scrap them. He said he'd give me one. If anyone else in the area is interested, I could see how much he'd be willing to sell them for.

Try a local beer store, that's what I do. You basically buy the tank from them, I think around $60. When empty, bring it back and pick up a full one. My store it's $12.

Update on this. I got a 20# tank from my friend. Not sure if it's within the hydro date still or not, but Mac Medical Gases said they'll swap it out for a new one that is within the hydro date and fill it for $31.

Thanks for suggesting this place!
