NYC planted tank discussion/trade group

After reading past post about getting a planted tank group started in NYC, I was wondering is there such a group for people to meet to talk or trade? I would definitely be interested in joining such a group. Currently, I am a member of the BAS, but they don't seem to have a way for people to trade at their monthly meeting. Max

This has been attempted so many times, but the main issue seems to be finding a place to get together and finding enough people who actually want to meet up. There's also the matter of what to actually do when the group meets up. Figure a little chit chat, coffee or beer, and then someone makes a presentation about something or other? I dunno.

I've met maybe 10 to 15 people off this site and everyone so far has been really chill judging from brief encounters trading plants and fish.

it might just be better to post up what someone has to trade here and what they are looking for. Because people will meet up to trade where ever its convenient. I wish the swap n shop section would let you search for local people. I much rather trade/buy local, but I have had good experiences with shipping and what not so far...wait, can we post stuff here for locals to trade since we do have the swap n shop?

Same here. I know a few people from Brooklyn who would be interested.

Sounds like a good idea but I'm in north Westchester. So how can there be some kind of central location where people could meet? We could set up with one another pretty easily I guess, though.

You know what's strange, so many aquarium groups opened on Meetup last year, but they've all gone now.. I always thought at least one of them would still be here now.

Well, does anyone in the NY area has any Hygrophila corymbosa Kompakt for sale or trade?

Hey I tried making a plant club/group for NYC many times already but spypet kept shooting me down. I think it was because he always had something against me.

But theres always demand ofr a group. If u guys like, I would like to start again and I can do all the details. Let me know if u guys like a advance aquatic plant club of NYC.

Its a shame that a place like NYC can have so many things but just not a aquatic plant club just for plants.

All I could really find was some seemingly harmless criticism from him to you.. then again, I don't hang out here too much and it looks like spypet's banned for reasons I don't know about, so I don't really know the whole story..

But anyways, yes, you should try to start one again. No reason not to, it seems like someone's clamoring for one every few months anyways.

Just a tip - don't be discouraged to start small and slow if need be - the clubs that I've seen went down in the past year focused so much on getting a constant location for meetings or building advanced websites that they've basically lost their original purpose.
