Where can I get Egg Crate in NYC?

aka Light Diffusing Panels for fluorescent lights.

I need some to keep all the gravel from sliding down and becoming a flat landscape and I heard from Reef aquarists that this is what they use; however, the Home Depot here in Manhattan does not stock that kind of stuff.

Any clues? Anyone know what I'm talking about?

I'm downtown Manhattan too.

Try a local hardware store. Or a light shop? Or lowes in Brooklyn.

Hi chloespeaks,

You might want to try Home Depot; note this is a 5 pack but I have purchased individual panels in the stores.

You will have to head to either Queens or Brooklyn if you want egg crate from Home Depot.

Not all HD's and Lowe's are created equal. Depending on local codes some things just aren't gonna be there. In the case of eggcrate I think it's more a case of demand. I don't there are too many basements with the type of fixture those panels are used on in Manhattan. If you try ordering it online at HD, I would bet you could have it delivered there.

dont know if you ever commute to jersey at all but i just saw some yesterday at the Ace in hillside, nj. ive got no problem at all picking it up and shipping it to you. just cover the cost and shipping of course. i wouldnt want anything for the trouble. i mean its no trouble really at all. i drive by the ace everyday. dont know what the cost of the piece or shipping would be. if you have too much trouble finding it, i've got no problem helping out. i am a little worried about the integrity of the piece(s) being compromised during the shipping but then again i dont know how fragile or strong these things are.

I just bought the last sheet of egg crate at the homedepot near ulmer street two weeks ago.
Lowes near old country doesn't have it. They only have the clear plastic sheets that look rippled

AWWWW! I love you guys - so much help (esp. luky who's offered to obtain, pack and ship!).
really good ideas. at least now I know which places might actually have it - possibly, i can call before making a trip Queens/Brooklyn, or it's going to be that i'm going to have to hit the Hillside one on my way to Mother in law's in South Plainfield. at least I know there's some there.

it's true that there's probably not much use for that kind of stuff in manhattan. home depot will ship a pack of FIVE sheets for $79+shipping, but what would I do with all that? I've got a single 17 gallon aquarium and a 850 square foot apartment.

$79 + shipping? A single 4x2 section is about $14 in store. Take the train out to Queens or Brooklyn and save some money!

I guess that must be for having it shipped to your home. Would they have the same minimum Qty if you pick it up at the store in Manhattan? The stuff isn't the sturdiest thing in the world and it would be a real bear to pack and ship one sheet. But if it was coming from a distribution center to that store? Hmmmmm..dunno. You shouldn't have any issues finding it in NJ at all. Drop me a PM if you do, I have plenty.

The base of my tank is 24"x14". I was thinking of creating some height in the back and/or side - probably need 3-5 pieces from 4"x4" to 8"x12"...?

Anyone got any extra pieces they'd like to sell and ship (I'd pay of course)
