I had UV leds in a fixture I bought, I experienced better growth changing them to whites but thats just one case. I'd like to hear others answers to this. I believe metal halide bulbs put out a decent amount of UV. Also the UV leds are very inefficient compared to whites so I might have just had better growth due to the higher amount of total light.

Are you talking about UV for the plants or UV as a sterilizer?

I view UV sterilizers as a nice to have device and not a requirement. Most folks do not use one on a planted tank but for a quarantine, the benefits are there, even if used only for a short period of time.
