It was a small LI contingent (myself and one other) - but we had a good time.

I got some fish from Frank to stock my tank.

Celestial pearl danios
Microdevario nana
Yunnanilus sp. "Rosy oach" (also referred to as Tuberoschistura arakanensis)
Hara jerdoni

The aim was to have a 100% Myanmar biotope with the Burmese mini moth catfish (Hara miniscula) - but what Frank got as this species looks like another, larger Hara sp. So I opted for the jerdoni instead. So far - everyone is getting along great and there is action in all levels of the water column. The CPDs are also very active and not too shy (well at least a few of them are) - so I am very happy about that. I will get some pics soon.

I also got a few nice plants (Myriophyllum tuberculatum, Myriophyllum simulans and Rotala wallichi).

Mrbrongher got some nice plants as well - a bunch of M. tuberculatum, Crypt balansae - and another frilly stem that there wasn't an ID on if I remember right.

We hit the following stores in addition to Franks:

South Shore Tropicals
Tropical Showcase
Aquarium Village
Pets Warehouse - Carle Place
Animal Pantry - Jamaica
Fishtown USA

Here are some not so great pictures of some of the fish I picked up getting settled in to their tank:

CPD (bottom) and Microdevario nana (top)

Another of the school of M. nana with a CPD interloper

And here is the only shot I was able to get of one of the Rosy loaches (bottom left corner). They are really cool fish and very active.

I am looking forward to breaking out my macro lens and spending some real time trying to get pictures of the inhabitants.

wow. sounds like you guys had a blast. im glad you guys had a fun aquatic adventure!

There's pets warehouse in copaige which is like 5minutes from franks' aquarium. They offer quite a large variety of plants so its always worth a stop if you are down that way.

im interested to hear what you though of south shore tropicals as they are a new entry in our lfs list.

You know - we drove by it and thought about stopping, but since it wasn't on "The List" and we had a lot of stops ahead of us - we skipped it. Doh. Maybe next time. We should add it to the list though.

I gave a brief synopsis over in "The List" thread - but will copy it here.

We visited two stores on the list that hadn't yet been rated.

1) South Shore Tropicals - First, the address in the list is wrong. The correct address is: 127 W. Hoffman Ave, Lindenhurst, NY 11757

127 Merrick Road as in the list is South Shore Tattoo Shop... Only a couple of miles down the road - so no big deal - and there was a pretty cool reptile store across the street.

South Shore Tropicals was nice - and definitely worth a visit if you are out that way. There was a nice selection of quality plants - I got a very nice bunch of Rotala wallichi and Myriophyllums simulans for $3 each, and Matt got a really nice-sized clump of Crypt balansae for $3; a nice number of very clean FW tanks, but not a ton of selection. So I would give it (2 smiles)

2) Animal pantry - 13720 Crossbay Blvd # 1 Jamaica, NY 11417. Nothing great here - just a typical mixed pet shop with a small sized fish dept (40ish tanks - mix FW and SW). Not really worth a special trip.

We also visited a few other already on the list. Tropical showcase and Pets Warehouse (177 Glen Cove Road) - both were really nice. Tropical showcase had a really good variety of plants (pots and stems) in great condition - I got a really nice clump of Myriophyllum tuberculatum. Aquarium village was also really nice - but had a heavier SW feel.

I also update the Google Maps. It also looks like the link to the map on the first post was deleted. https://maps.google.com/maps/ms?ie=U...09b9878cffe7fd

Can anyone give me an inventory of what plants (that you can recall) they offer? Would like to visit but would like to know if it's worth the trip.

Just for the record, I'm not chiming in here, not because I'm a dick, just because all of the stores blended together in my head, and I can't even ID most of the plants in my tanks, much less in a store's. I even thought about taking notes, but then I didn't.

Sorry.
