Heaters during the Hurricane?

I have a discus and angel fish on the Upper East Side, just west of Yorkville to be specific. If I lose power is there anything I can do in regards to keeping the heat on for my fish?

I'm sure most fish wouldn't mind for a few hours, but I wonder if there is something I should be doing for the Discus? I am going to do several water changes shortly in preparation, but am wondering if I have any course to take for heat if I lose power....

Thanks!

Well, I'm not sure what you can do now, it'll depend on what you have on hand. Hot water bottles can transfer heat, so really just a soda bottle with heated water in it, dropped into the tank might help a little.

What's better is insulating it first. Foam insulation or those silvery blankets can be laid on all sides of a tank to help it retain heat, and failing that even a regular blanket might help.

I'd wrap the tank with foil then blanket and use the glass top to prevent heat loss. They may endure several hours of cool water as these guys are shipped quite often in much small er bags of water with a small heat pack.

I would go for the hot water in bottles and just put em in there

So a guy walks into a Pet Store

Guy: "I have Algae on my drift wood!"

Pet Clerk: "Take two Plecos and call me next week."
