Tell your friend to consider getting his discus from Discus Hans in Baltimore, Md.
Hans is the premier importer of high quality Stendker discus from Germany.
He sells many sizes and strains and has an excellent reputation for customer service & quality fish, and will guarantee live delivery if shipped by air, or overnite express delivery.
Google for his website & contact info.

Or you can try Absolutely Fish in Clifton. I know it's a drive, but they have a bunch of different types of discus there, and they are (probably) the most reliable lfs in NJ.

I would caution against buying discus from most LFS. I've rarely seen healthy discus at a store; and the few times I have the prices are always astronomical!

Keep hunting for local breeders if you're really interested. Or as discuspaul mentioned, Hans is considered top notch as are a few other breeders stateside (check around for reviews of hans and/or kenny's discus.....those seem to be the 2 big names).

The forums at simplydiscus.com are another great spot to check. Many members there breed and then sell through that site.

I would also skip Sharks aquarium. I've seen several fish with camalanus worms there on many occasions.

Camalanus worm is just another reason to have a QT tank.

Looks like my friend is going to Monster Aquarium located in NY to get his fish. I will tell him about Hans.

As for the Camalanus worms, that's been in my tank for the past year now. Just can't seem to get rid of it :/

Not something you want to tolerate. Very contagious. Beware.
