Natures Cove Pet Center - Newton NJ - Closing Sept 30

Not sure how many people frequent this store for its fish, but I just found out it will be closing on Sept 30 and is in the process of liquidating all their inventory.

After being in business for 17 years, they finally could no longer compete with the PetSmart that opened in the same shopping plaza a few years ago.

Their facebook page - https://www.facebook.com/pages/Natur...r/291059200668 - has the listing of the stores final specials.

Another one gone.

And this was a decent store.

As we all run to the BoxPetMarkets let's not complain when when we get down to one store that sells nothing but goldfish, shimmying swordtails, and Aqueon filter cartridges. But they'll have an awesome assortment of cat food.

Sorry, had to vent a little on a Monday.

I completely agree.

I went to high school with the now owner (it was his father that originally opened the shop), and both the father and son were passionate about proving high quality service and products at a reasonable price.

I do see the necessity for big box stores, I just wish the people who make the decisions to let them into the communities actually consider the impact before approving them but in the end I guess it is always ultimately about the $...

I don't think there's any special permitting required that makes them different from a Bed Bath and Beyond that wants to open up shop. The answer is with us. In the case of Nature's Cove, I've never come across a small shop like that with prices that were right there with the box stores. I the case of Nature's Cove, there was no necessity for a box store. The only thing that I could ever fault them for was not carrying much in the way of plants. They were almost non-existant. But that's still better than the off-the-rack, over-priced tissue cultured plants you get at the box store. So in the end, folks in Sussex county now have very, very little to choose from and the quality is just.....bad. Some stores need a dose of reality; not in this case.

This was my go to local place. Hate that it's gone. When they did have plants, they were decently priced and usually pretty healthy. It's a shame to see it gone.
