Checking in from Strafford NH. Just threw away a ton of clippings as I had no one to give them to. I'll post here next time.

Hey guys and girls,

Hopefully this isn't considered necroing a thread but I cant imagine it would be considering the small numbers for NH and likelihood of inactivity...
New member, from Newmarket. Anyone else from the seacoast region?
I had once heard of a fish club out of Somersworth. Not sure how serious they were/are or if they dabbled in plants at all.
Maybe we could come up with something or possibly set up a local exchange of sorts for those that have clippings etc.
I'll add another brick and mortar location to the list: Pet City in Seabrook. The selection isn't the best but he does have plants and some are less than common (certainly better than the chains) The owner seems to really love the hobby but he looks as if he might be a bit downtrodden with it. Lately he's been setting up nano display tanks though. I can tell by the look in his eyes when I talk plants that cares a lot and truly wants more people to gain interest.

Hey I'm also a new member, in Manchester. I'm definitely interested in the plant clippings from people in the area. Just went to Fish Mike's the other day and it was nice, but his bettas weren't in tanks, they were in cups. They still looked better than the ones at the chain stores, though.

Hello! Just relocated back to Manchester, NH from Texas. Getting a tank going again after selling everything I had for the move six months ago. If anyone in the area is selling or getting rid of clippings I would love some. Looking for dwarf crays and neo shrimps too.

Also looking for new fishkeeping friends and such.

I went today and was pretty disappointed in their plant selection. Prices were high and the plants were not doing well. The swords were melting, the anubas they had were very small. The bacopas were in decent shape but overpriced. High, high prices.

And the Bettas were in 2cup bowls resting on top of other aquariums.

Didn't buy anything, won't be going back.

Any other options around NH, greater Boston area? I'm willing to drive an hour south.

Hey everyone, I'm in Manchester as well. I'll give my thoughts on the various stores I've been to.

I've been liking Pets Plus in Londonderry a lot. It's a fairly small aquatics section but they have some interesting things, stock seems to rotate pretty frequently. I've never seen a sick fish in the tanks. I particularly like the nano tanks. They also have a decent selection of rock.

Petco in Manchester is a magnet store which basically means they have a ton of options for ordering. The dept itself is very meh but they can get tons of different fish species in if you ask the aquatics specialist, and they will leave it in the bag for you to come and pick it up without it hitting their system. They were able to get me my mudskippers for half the price Zoo Creatures was selling them for.

Zoo Creatures. Some things are way way more expensive than at other stores, while some fish are reasonably priced. My advice is to know the average going price for a fish before committing to getting one from them. Maybe I'm just unlucky but every time I'm there, aquatics is staffed by someone who tells me they don't normally work in fish. I haven't felt that I've ever dealt with anyone super knowledgeable.

Fish Mike's, I agree I've never seen bettas in tanks. They're kept in bowls. I wish the saltwater had more variety, or they just get rid of some of the salt tanks and expand freshwater a little more. It's a small store and the salt tanks are always barren looking. Overall it's a decent store but I will say that Mike makes me a little uncomfortable. He's super stand offish and I'm glad to see he's hiring more people to work in the store because it's much more pleasant when someone else is working.

Jay's Aquatics is huge, I was so surprised to walk in there. Unfortunately when I was there the store was ridiculously low on fish. There were entire sections of tanks that were sitting empty. They did have some nice stuff and I got some crystal black shrimp for a good price.

Hey guys,

If you venture to Vermont, I recommend One Stop Country Pet (Barre, but I think they have other locations), and Pet Advantage in South Burlington. We also have a PetSmart in Williston, and a PetCo in Barre and Burlington. There is a saltwater shop in Waterbury Center, but they have very inconsistent hours.

Coming from Waterbury, VT, is there a NH store worth the drive?

Cheers
