T5ho or finnex ray2

Hi I have a 17.4 gallon mr aqua 24x12x14.4 and I'm running 2x22" t5ho bulbs. One is 10000k one is 6700k. I'm thinking bout replacing it with a 24" ray2 by finnex. I'm planning on growing hc. Anyone have thought or opinions on this? Do you guys think its a good idea? Any input would be appreciated. Thanks

There are tanks running less than you currently growing HC. I saw a couple threads about it. If you don't mind doing it the LED woul dbe more cost effective in the long run but probably unnecessay if yo uwanted to devote your resources elsewhere.

Finnex! I'm getting mine soon. I'm excited. Led last longer so in other words.. I think you're getting your money's worth! My t5ho was such a pain to go lamp replacement shopping... Too humbug. Especially it looks nice on my mr.aqua...!

Hey, Finnex and current are coming out with some new fixtures later this year. Currently, Current has better colors with less Par and Finnex has more Par but less colors. Both are saying the new fixtures will improve their weaknesses. The bad part is waiting a few more months... they maybe available in November. Check out each sponsor's threads on the forum.

I have a ADA 60P that's running a 24" Finnex Ray 2 and the HC carpet has been growing lush.

I agree with led. But it always a persons preference. Always go by the golden rule of 2-3 watts per gallon. That has always been the rule of thumb with growing plants in aquariums.

With LEDs you use PAR not watts per gallon. Check the sticky for lighting under TPT's specific aspects of a planted tank.

With the price we pay for power (highest in the nation), the FugeRay 2 all the way. I have a 24" over my 29G. Good stuff.

Nicely said hedge fund! Check out post t5 vs led as u can see plants flourish under the color spectrum of the light. Led loses color. I'll stick with my t5 just like hedge here!

LEDs are not yet proven whereas T5s have been around for as long as I have been into tanks. Sure, there will be a ton of people hyping up their tank with LED lights but if you look at the plants they are growing, it's usually fairly common things. Some of these plants you can grow with a flash light so yeah it will grow with LEDs as well. This is solely my opinion.

There are some nice LEDs coming to the market but they are very expensive if you want something that is dimmable etc.

Here's a 24" FugeRay2 on my low-tech 29G. The colors could be better, but I'm still every proud of my tank.

Whoa thanks for the replies guys. I think I'm gonna go with the LEDs. Maybe wait till November for those new ones like kai808 said. Till then I guess I'll give the t5ho more of a chance to impress me.
