Would be interesting to find out if the rumors are true! I have to admit I had to look up the pleurothallid orchids and found them to be quite interesting! Were they difficult to come by? Also, how's the care/upkeep for the nepenthes? Sounds like you've got a pretty cool collection!

Happy Tuesday!

Hey Carl,
Yeah, "Dixon" is from Manoa. The only PDFs I've ever seen were auratus (green & black). There was a record of a leucomelas on Maui.
The mini orchids were something that I wanted to include in my PDF vivarium. Got most of mine from an online vendor in SoCal. There's also a place in Maui that specializes in these guys.
The Nepenthes are another plant group I've always been interested in since my college days. Here in Hawaii we're lucky to have the climate to grow them outside w/o a greenhouse. Got my 1st last year @ new products show @ Blaisdell. I haven't killed it so thought I'd try other species. The pitchers of the various species are really spectacular.
My planted tanks haven't changed much from my last postings. Have included an outdoor tub "pond" & some "Monty" swordtails w/ my outdoor SS vintage tanks.
So, how bout you? What kinds of tanks are you currently maintaining? Do you go to the go to the Honolulu Tropical Fish Society meetings?

Have a good one,
Larry

Aloha Larry,

Thanks for the heads up on the orchids and the pitchers! I just might have to explore that option when I've got a little more time to dedicate to them! I have to admit that m potted plants are rather neglected as of late and I lost a bunch of pepper plants in the recent past. I was growing the Ghost, Trinidad Marunga Scorpion, some habaneros and, of course, the Hawaiian chili pepper.

Due to limited space, I've only got one rack running with two 40B tanks. My gf runs the top tank and it's doing pretty good, actually. I have the lower tank and it, too has signs of neglect. I've got to dedicate a little more time to balance it out as I recently converted to LED lighting from T5HO's. I kinda knew it was gonna happen and had planned on doing it when I was ready, but when it came time to change bulbs again, I just had to pull the trigger on some LEDs that were just too good of an opportunity to pass up.

It's been a while since I went to the Aquarium Society meetings. I think the last time I went, it was back in the early 1990's! I used to have a lot of tanks running back then and I was into african cichlids, discus and synodontis. I was also trying my hand at pseudomugils as well. I also had some PDF and some phelsuma that I managed to catch locally.

Happy Hump Day!
Carl
