I need help with controlling Umbrella Hairgrass

Hi Everyone,

I recently moved and replanted my 125G tank, and one of the plants I really wanted was umbrella hairgrass as a background plant. While all of the plants in my tank are growing, this plant is just EXPLODING. I would really like to trim it down, but I've heard that it can't be cut; that is needs to have the small plantlets removed instead. One site I read said that it's as simple as combing it, and the plantlets will all come out. I'm finding that isn't the case at all... When I tried to comb the plantlets out, it just pulled the mother plant out because it isn't rooted enough. Can anyone comment on how to keep this plant in check? Is it even possible? I love the way it looks, but if I can't trim this back or control it in some way, it's going to have to go!

If you ever think you're too small to make a difference, spend a couple of nights sleeping with a mosquito.
