Trimming Tiger Lotus to promote horizontal growth

Hi

My Tiger lotus is getting tall. I want to trim the tallest leaves as I've read that if they break the surface they put all of their energy in their emersed growth. My question is if I cut the tall stems off will that encourage new growth? About half of my stems are tall, so that would mean a significant loss if new leaves don't develop. Any other suggestions and advice welcome.

Sometimes you have to be a bit aggressive with Nymphaea. If it knows, somehow, that it can make it to the surface or even close to it, it will get tall like that. But if you keep on top of cutting it down, it will stop trying to reach the surface.

Thanks. I think I'll trim them tomorrow. I'll make sure to take some before and after shots.
