Yeah, like Lobelia cardinalis. I get strange looks from people when I say that plant is pretty much a staple in the aquarium hobby. "You can grow that in water? Weird."

Well it certainly grew after putting it outdoors. It's about 7 inches tall now but so far does not produce runners quickly. The tips had some issues drying out easily but once it acclimated it was fine. The seeds sprouted near the end of March so this was not quick at all. Lack of natural sunlight and warmth at the beginning are possible causes.

It is definitely a slow process. I think it has potential to produce a lot hair grass but... golly its taking its sweet time to grow in. I think we need to trim it to encourage runners. I plan to do as much soon. The ones I ended up putting in my vivarium sprouted about 2 dozen or so seeds. This was a very low return considering probably hundreds of seeds went in. I ended up supplementing it with hair grass purchased off of ebay and am waiting for that to grow in now.

Here is what my outdoor tub looks like after a rain yesterday:

Update:

This is after 2 trims. It needs to be trimmed more then once a week right now:

I trimmed it a third time shortly after taking this picture.

I am hoping to buy a new tank in the very near future (I want an ADA 60-F but they are all sold out). Once I get my new tank I will be harvesting. Till then I am going to let this go and see how thickly I can make it carpet.
