I dont know what kind of plant this is or how to trim it. It has reached the top of my aquarium and I'm not sure what to do!

Cut it anywhere along the stem and replant the top.

I usually cut a couple leaves below the part I want to leave exposed and trim the bottom leaves to about 1/4" This will provide anchors to hold the plant down while roots establish. You can leave the existing plant in place and it will usually branch out to give you a couple more branches to replant.

I may come across as a know-it-all. In reality, I have no idea.
