Anubias Nana Golden - loosing leaves

Tank is a Fluval EBI 2.6g with stock 7K LED light and Fluval Stratum.
Thrive S 0.6 mL 2x week
Enhance 0.3mL 3x week

Bought the Anubias Golden from the LFS a week ago and attached rhizome to driftwood. One rhizome had half the rhizome melt and all leaves lost. Trying to see if remaining part will live after trimming of melt. Other rhizome is doing better but loosing a leaf every couple of days. Is this normal as it adapts to my tank or could there be something else wrong?

Hi @WZ9V,

Most anubias and java ferns today are grown emersed (out of water). The emersed leaves have a thick cuticle layer that prevents them from 'breathing' underwater. Most plants that are grown emersed lose their leaves and develop new 'submerged' leaves that are adapted to live in water. Show some patience, as long as the rhizome is green and firm (not mushy) it is likely new leaves will emerge over time.

Took a break for a while. The Rhizome went all mushy and I lost them all. Planning to start over.

Sound like you had rhizome rot. Its contagious to other anubias, as well as swords and crypts. Do a very large/multiple water changes before adding more to that tank.
I quarantine all new anubias for at least 4 weeks (up to 8 weeks) to look for signs of the disease-rapid lose of leaves, stems falling ff, soft discolored rhizome, smell like garbage. The few time I tried to get a large collection going I'd loose $300-500 in anubias to rhizome rot x.x

Due to photobuckets new bs cost for use of images on forums I have deleted all photobucket accounts. I apologize if you enjoyed or found my photos helpful.

Yup, I lost all of them in that tank. Fortunately it was a small setup 3g startup so not that much was lost.
