Are you using CO2, and how are you determining that you have enough, if you are?

I use drop check, and it shows green-yellow color.
Some times I check by the chart KH and pH. And by the chart I have about 30 ppm of CO2.

Just to be certain, are you using a 4 dkH reference solution inside the drop checker?

Anthony

Fair bit of GSA on the old growth and substrate. What's your phospate level/dosing? You may need to increase P a little.

RE: CO2. What's your pH before CO2 on, and pH at the end of the photoperiod? This is another method of determining CO2 levels.

If you turn up CO2 any further do fish gasp at the surface? If not you can gradually increase CO2, if the fish can handle it.

This is purely anecdotal, for me snails are the first to show side effects from CO2. Followed by shrimp, then fish. Have no idea why. I've seen this with pond snails, ramshorn (incl. mini ramshorn) and others. Haven't kept nerites so not sure.

Good to know. I posted a thread to see what species of livestock seem to have varying tolerances to co2 levels and didn't get as many answers as I thought I would, but this info is good to know. Those anecdotal answers are observations and are still helpful. Thanks!

It's a micronutrient toxicity. Stop dosing so much micros; aquatic plants use very very little.
Termato and Termato like this.
