Aquasoil and gravel?

Hey I've been stalking around on the forum for a while and decided that I'd begin my first planted tank 20 gallon! Since it's my first time on here and doing a planted tank, I wanted to know if a 9lt bag of Aquasoil would be enough to cover the front and add some depth(3 inches maybe?) in the back. If not, would I be able to add some gravel in the back for extra height? Thanks!

Welcome to the forum ShostytheSharkfish.

What is the size of your 20gallon ? In particular you need to multiply the length*width* depth of substrate (3inches).

For reference about half of bag of enough to cover a 20*20 square inches surface with 2 to 4 inches of ADA. Some people use lava rocks below the ADA AS as a filler. But keep in mind bigger rocks will rise to the surface in time.

On hiatus till later this year

Buy enough to do pure ADA you will be much happier in the long run

for a 20H you need 14L
for a 20L you need 17.7

This is for 3 inches

I used this calc

Aquarium Substrate Calculator
